Description: The Hampton Virginia Current swim team is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and organized Head Age Group Coach who would like to be part of building a young program to be competitive in the state, region and ultimately on a National level. The main practice site is the beautiful state of the art Hampton Aquaplex which has a 50 meter by 25 yard competition pool and a separate 8 lane by 25 yard program pool. The HVA Current program will be starting its third year in September and is ready for a full-time coach to lead its age group program. We are developing a program that is both inclusive and pointed toward competitive success.
This full-time exempt position needs someone who can pass on their love for the sport, teach children to have excellent stroke technique and basic skills, has strong communication skills with both children and parents, create a fun, encouraging and positive atmosphere for the program. The Head Age Group Coach will work together with the Head Coach, parent Board of Directors and experienced consultants to develop a culture of excellence, integrity and achieve the program's competitive goals.
The City of Hampton is part of the historic and beautiful Virginia Peninsula and Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Hampton has many parks, beaches on the Chesapeake Bay, is a short drive to the Virginia Beach Atlantic Ocean and only a few hours from the Appalachian Mountains and Washington D.C.
***Key Responsibilities:
***Coaching & Athlete Development
Develop and implement structured age-appropriate teaching and training programs to develop exceptional stroke technique, physical agility, endurance, competitive success and transitions between higher levels in the program.
Provide coaching, mentorship and leadership to all age group swimmers focusing on individual growth and team success.
Oversee and develop a staff of coaches that are in sync with the program's developmental plan and philosophy.
Oversee swimmer placement in the age group practice structure, practice schedules, swim meet preparations and team-related activities.
Works with the Head Coach and consultants to ensure the age group program achieves the goals of the program.
Is the primary contact for age group swimmers and their parents/guardians. Continually educate parents, address concerns and respond promptly to parent communications.
Seek continuing education to gain a higher level of knowledge that enhances personal and program development.
Coach the highest level of age group swimmers (Waves Gold) and assist with other age group levels as appropriate.
***Team Leadership & Administration
Be proficient with team management, operations, entry software and equipment.
Work with the Head Coach, Board of Directors, Administrative Staff, Committee Members and Team Consultants to manage the day to day operations of the club and contribute to the teams long term development.
Assist with recruitment and outreach efforts to attract swimmers to the program.
Attend staff meetings and assist with preparation as requested by the Head Coach.
Direct the development of the Age Group coaching staff through education and mentorship.
Support club operations through involvement in fundraisers, clinics, camps, evaluations and special events.
Work with the Head Coach to ensure appropriate staffing for all practice groups.
***Community and Culture
Foster a culture of teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth within the age group program. Ensure compliance with team policies, league regulations and safety standards.
Effectively represent the HVA Current swim team and assist the club in fulfilling its vision, mission and goals in a professional manner and in accordance with USA Swimming Code of Ethics and Conduct policies.
Assist the team Safe Sport Coordinator to ensure the team is in compliance with all regulations and training requirements.
Provide regular education and updates to parents and athletes regarding training goals, the seasonal plan, progress and meet expectations using the monthly newsletter, team bulletin board, group emails, etc.

Qualifications and Skills
- Current and maintain USA Swim Coach Member in good standing.
- Strong leadership, communications and organizational skills.
- Desire to work in a collaborative environment.
- Minimum high school diploma or GED, Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Three to five years of relevant experience, Age Group experience preferred.
- ASCA Level 3 Certified (Age Group) or Higher
