Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Naval Architect or Marine Engineer with a strong background in engineering design to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design and analysis of various vessel types including barges, tow boats, tugboats, OSVs and ships. This role will contribute to mechanical systems on new builds, ensuring designs meet regulatory standards and performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop hull forms, general arrangements, and perform stability analyses
- Develop and analyze structural arrangements
- Develop and design mechanical systems and components for marine vessels (e.g., propulsion systems, HVAC, pumping systems).
- Create and review 3D models, detailed drawings, and technical documentation using CAD software such as AutoCAD, Ship Constructor, and Rhinoceros.
- Use of relevant analysis software (eg. Stability Analysis Software, FEA Software, etc.)
- Perform engineering calculations, on power requirements, engine sizing, propulsion systems, pumping and pipe flows, HVAC sizing and thermal analysis.
- Collaborate with team members, electrical engineers, and project managers to ensure cohesive system design and integration.
- Support design reviews, client meetings, and classification society submissions.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and performance evaluations of marine mechanical systems.
- Provide engineering support during construction, installation, commissioning, and sea trials.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ABS, USCG, IMO, SOLAS).
- Participate in R&D initiatives to improve marine engineering solutions and promote sustainable design.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of [2–7] years of relevant experience in vessel or marine system design and engineering. However, will consider less experience and new graduates.
- Proficiency with the software listed above.
- Working knowledge of marine classification society requirements and international maritime regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- USCG 3rd Assistant Engineer or 3rd Mate License or greater
- Knowledge of and ability to code in various coding languages.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Experience with shipyard operations
- Familiarity with advanced simulation tools and CFD.
- Project management or leadership experience is a plus.
