As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced AUV Image Analyst to join our growing team.
Responsibilities
Task 1: Deep-Sea Benthos Image and Sample Assessment
A. Provide expert identification of benthic fish and invertebrates in underwater imagery collected by
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), supporting assessment of the deep-sea benthos;
B. Assist team members with limited species identification expertise by guiding them through the
identification process in underwater imagery and providing supporting materials; and
C. Leverage species identification expertise to support the modernization of data workflows,
enhancing the efficiency of data analysis and QA/QC processes.
D. Provide assistance as needed at sea in planning and conducting AUV operations to maximize the
amount of data collected in habitats likely to maintain sponge populations.
Task 2: Data Management and Analysis
A. Prepare and enter data derived from underwater image analyses into the designated database
following prescribed procedures;
B. Conduct expert analysis of database entries using appropriate statistical methods to ensure data
integrity and insight extraction; and
C. Develop presentations and draft publications summarizing findings related to benthic resources.
Qualifications
In addition to basic computer skills (MS Office, etc.), excellent written and verbal communication skills, the
contractor shall provide personnel with the following minimum level of education/experience: Bachelor's
degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university with a major directly related in a field of study
as marine biology, fisheries, oceanography, social science, natural science, mathematics, or hydrology,
plus four (4) years of experience in related field or combination of such totaling eight (8) years combined
education/experience. A Master's Degree in a related field or Ph.D. may be substituted for experience.
Additional minimum qualifications include:
1. Six years' experience in collected data on benthic invertebrates, particularly sponges;
2. Expertise in identifying cold water sponges and fish from underwater imagery;
3. Experience in statistical analysis of scientific information on the distribution and abundance of
benthic fauna;
4. Expertise in using programs such as "R" to complete statistical analysis.
5. Experience conducting research at sea;
6. Experience analyzing data collected using AUVs and ROVs; and
7. Experience in leading the production and publication of multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts.
